The Furrion Prosthesis is the giant racing mech you've always wanted

It's no Mobile Suit Gundam, but Furrion's Prosthesis racing mech is one of the most ridiculously neat things we've seen at CES 2017.

It's the first mech in what its parent company hopes will become a racing series. It started life as an art project, as a machine that humans could use to walk around. But then the idea grew until it was positioned as a first-of-its-kind racing mech. And you have to admit, racing mechs sounds pretty great.

Tim Cook's pay slips after Apple's 2016 dip

Apple failed to meet its annual sales goals in 2016, and CEO Tim Cook paid the price.


Cook earned $8.75 million in 2016, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing from Apple on Friday. That compares with $10.28 million in 2015, and $9.22 million in 2014.


The Cupertino, California-based company had aimed to surpass its $223.6 billion in sales from 2015. Instead it fell short in 2016, raking in $215.6 billion.

Qualcomm says 5G is the biggest thing since electricity

It's being compared to the arrival of electricity.


That's a big call but Qualcomm has its eyes on a 5G future. And it's not just thinking about speed.


At a CES that has given us intelligent robots, autonomous drones and wallpaper TVs, the next generation of wireless technology might not seem like that big of a deal. But Qualcomm says it will change society in ways we haven't seen since the introduction of electricity.


For anyone who thinks 5G is just an iteration after 3G and 4G, Qualcomm CEO Stephen Mollenkopf spent his keynote outlining why the next generation of mobile connectivity is about so much more than faster 4K Netflix streaming on your phone.

Google wants to help you buy a BMW

A new app from BMW and Google lets you digitally customize a car.

You could probably call it tech for the 1 percent: Google and BMW are teaming up to make it easier to shop for that new Beemer you've had your eye on.

The two companies unveiled on Wednesday a new app that helps you digitally customize and virtually walk around a new BMW, so you can feel out the customizations before you buy. The companies unveiled the app during the annual CES tech trade show in Las Vegas.

Samsung kicks off CES event with Note 7 mea culpa

Samsung sure didn't take long to address the elephant in the room at CES -- its exploding Galaxy Note 7.

The company kicked off its press conference, which typically highlights its shiny new TVs and home appliances, with an acknowledgement that the company has work to do to regain customer trust.
